About My Project

My name is Emma and I am working on my Gold Take Action Project for Girl Scouts. My project, Put Your Best Foot Forward, will address the community issue of poverty-stricken elementary school children who do not have the same opportunity to learn, explore, and grow because the children lack proper shoes.

As a result, they do not have confidence in themselves, cannot participate in PE class and recess, compete in sports, nor perform well academically in school. I learned of this need through the principal of Wolf Meadow Elementary School. The population attending his elementary school is one of the poorest in Cabarrus County with 83% of the students eligible for free or reduced lunch.

We should do all we can to help to support children living in poverty, give them self-confidence, the opportunity to participate in sports, and the comfort of having good shoes.
